Kasuga Taisha (春日大社) is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Nara. Established in 768 CE, it is famous for its lanterns that have been donated by worshippers. The shrine is also designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara".

Accessing Kasuga Taisha Shrine

By Train

The nearest train station to Kasuga Taisha Shrine is Kintetsu Nara Station. Upon arriving at the station:

  • Walk for approximately 30 minutes eastwards towards the shrine.
  • Alternatively, you can take a bus from the station – take the Nara city loop line bus number 2 and alight at the Kasuga Taisha Honden bus stop, which is a short walk away from the shrine.

By Bus

For those coming from JR Nara Station:

  • Several buses run directly to the shrine from here. Look for city loop buses such as bus number 2 or 6 and get off at the Kasuga Taisha Honden stop.

On Foot

If you're already exploring Nara Park:

  • The shrine is accessible on foot and it takes about a 15-20 minute walk through the park, offering a beautiful chance to see the freely roaming deer.
