Food History of Khasab Castle, Khasab, Oman

The Khasab Castle in Khasab, Oman, is a site rich with history, dating back to when the Portuguese built it in the 17th century to defend the harbor. While the castle itself may not have a distinct food history, it's situated in a region with a culinary tradition that's deeply intertwined with its culture and the resources available in this coastal area. Omani cuisine has been influenced by Arab, Persian, Indian, Asian, Eastern Mediterranean, and African flavors due to its strategic location on the trade routes. Seafood is a staple, and because of the Islamic dietary rules, pork is avoided, and other meats like chicken, goat, and camel are popular.
