Kirishima Shrine is a Shinto shrine situated on the wooded slopes of Mount Kirishima, in the Kagoshima Prefecture of Japan. Rich in mythological significance, the shrine is dedicated to the gods Ninigi-no-Mikoto, Konohanasakuya-hime, and Hoori-no-Mikoto, believed to be the ancestors of the imperial household and connected with the legend of the descent of the grandson of the sun goddess Amaterasu. This historical sanctuary is known for its beautiful traditional architecture and red-lacquered arched bridges that starkly contrast with the verdant environment, making it a photogenic spot. Kirishima Shrine is a center for cultural heritage and attracts many visitors interested in Shinto rituals, Japanese history, and spiritual practices. The shrine, established in the 6th century, has been rebuilt several times, with the current main building dating back to 1715. It is part of the Kirishima-Kinkowan National Park and is often visited by pilgrims and tourists who come to enjoy the surrounding scenic beauty, hot springs, and hiking opportunities provided by the Kirishima mountain range.
