Sengan-en Garden, also known as Senganen or Isoteien, is a historic Japanese garden situated along the coast of Kagoshima Bay in Kagoshima City, Japan. Established in 1658 by the powerful Shimazu Clan, this stately home and its surroundings became a place for relaxation and entertainment of the domain's ruling family. The garden design masterfully incorporates the concept of 'borrowed scenery,' integrating the active Sakurajima volcano and the bay into its landscape. Spanning about 12 acres, Sengan-en also features a blend of manicured gardens, natural woodlands, as well as ponds and streams that evoke a sense of harmony. Rich in history, the site includes a bamboo grove, a tea house where traditional tea ceremonies are performed, and the Shoko Shuseikan Museum, housed in a 19th-century factory and dedicated to Kagoshima's industrial heritage. In 2015, Sengan-en and associated sites were designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, as part of the 'Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution.'
