Must-Try Foods In Kuramathi (Maldives) For Tourists 2026 - 2027

Food History of Kuramathi, Maldives

The culinary history of the Maldives, including Kuramathi, is deeply influenced by the surrounding sea and the trade routes which passed through the island nation. The traditional diet in Maldives centers around fish, especially tuna, coconuts, and starches like rice and tubers. These core ingredients have been artfully included in Maldivian cuisine, creating a range of flavors that have been further enriched by the influence of Arab, Indian, Sri Lankan, and Oriental flavors over centuries of trade and exchange. Kuramathi, being a sought-after resort island, has refined these age-old flavors to cater to a global palate, combining traditional Maldivian dishes with international cuisine.
