Best Time to Visit Kuttam Pokuna, Anuradhapura

The ideal time to visit Kuttam Pokuna, one of the prime historic sites in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, falls between November to March. During these months, Sri Lanka experiences its dry season in the region known as the "Cultural Triangle", where Anuradhapura is located. Tourists can expect pleasant weather with minimal rainfall, which is perfect for exploring the ancient twin ponds and surrounding historical marvels. The temperature during this period remains comfortably warm, usually averaging around 20-30°C (68-86°F), which is conducive for sightseeing and enjoying the outdoor activities. Mornings are particularly magical as the soft light of dawn casts a serene glow over the ancient structures, enhancing their beauty and providing an excellent opportunity for photography.

Visiting during the peak season also means that the Kuttam Pokuna and other sites in Anuradhapura are at their busiest, with more tours and guides available, as well as better services in terms of accommodation and transport. Nevertheless, if you prefer a more peaceful experience, consider visiting towards the tail end of November or in early March. During these times, the crowd thins out a bit and the weather remains favorable. Additionally, it is wise to plan your visit to Kuttam Pokuna either early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the midday sun, as the heat can become quite intense, particularly between 12 PM and 3 PM, and there is limited shade available around the ponds.
