Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, located in the Education City of Al Rayyan in Qatar, is an institution dedicated to showcasing and celebrating modern and contemporary art with a focus on Arab artists and perspectives. It was founded in 2010 by H.E. Sheikh Hassan bin Mohammed bin Ali Al Thani. Through its innovative and educational programs, it aims to inspire a new generation of artists and art lovers. The museum features a dynamic collection of paintings, sculptures, and mixed-media installations, housing over 9,000 works that span the 1840s to the present. Besides the permanent collection, Mathaf hosts temporary exhibitions, artist talks, and workshops. Designed by French architect Jean-François Bodin, the museum occupies a former school building, which has been transformed into a vibrant cultural hub. Mathaf provides a platform for dialogue and scholarship in the field of modern and contemporary art in the region and positions Qatar as an important cultural center in the Middle East.
