Best Time To Visit Meigetsuin Temple (Kamakura) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Meigetsuin Temple, Kamakura, Japan

Meigetsuin Temple, also known as the "Hydrangea Temple," is renowned for its stunning display of hydrangeas that bloom vibrantly in the early summer months. The best time to visit Meigetsuin Temple is in June when the blossoms are at their peak, creating a breathtaking tapestry of blue flowers that enchant visitors. During this period, the temple holds a special event known as the "Ajisai Matsuri" or Hydrangea Festival, which attracts myriad visitors and photography enthusiasts eager to capture the natural spectacle. The beauty of the blue hydrangeas is often complemented by the gentle, temperate climate of the early summer season, making your visit pleasant and memorable.

In addition to the lush blooms of June, autumn is another excellent time to plan your visit, especially in late November when the vibrant autumn leaves frame the traditional temple structures, offering a contrasting yet equally beautiful backdrop. The crisp and cool air, shorter queues, and tranquil atmosphere during the fall season make it an ideal time for those who prefer a more reflective and peaceful experience. While Meigetsuin does not experience the same level of crowding as some other tourist destinations, the serenity of the off-peak seasons combined with the natural beauty of Kamakura's changing foliage can provide a profoundly moving and visually appealing journey.
