How to Reach Meigetsuin Temple, Kamakura, Japan
Meigetsuin Temple, known for its beautiful hydrangeas, is located in the historic city of Kamakura. To reach Meigetsuin, follow these steps:
By Train
From Tokyo:
- Take the JR Yokosuka Line directly to Kamakura Station. The trip usually takes about 1 hour.
- Alternatively, you can take the Shonan Shinjuku Line to Ofuna Station and switch to the JR Yokosuka Line for Kamakura.
From Kamakura Station:
- Outside of the east exit, find the bus terminal.
- Take a bus bound for Kita-Kamakura from Platform 6.
- Alight at the 'Meigetsuin-mae' stop. The temple is a short walk from here.
By Car
Parking is very limited in Kamakura and the streets are often congested, especially during the hydrangea season in June. If you choose to drive:
- Use a GPS navigation system and input the temple's address: 189 Yamanouchi, Kamakura, Kanagawa 247-0062, Japan.
- Be prepared for heavy traffic and limited parking, especially on weekends and during festivals.
Note: Meigetsuin Temple is a 10-minute walk from Kita-Kamakura Station, which is one stop before Kamakura Station on the JR Yokosuka Line.
On Foot
For those who prefer walking:
- Meigetsuin Temple is about a 30-minute walk from Kamakura Station.
- Enjoy a leisurely walk through the historical streets of Kamakura.
