The Mosque of Kunya-Urgench, located in the Dashoguz Region of Turkmenistan, is one of the most valuable historical and cultural landmarks of the ancient town of Urgench, which was once the capital of the Khwarezmian Empire. This site is part of the Kunya-Urgench historical park that includes a series of monuments dating from the 11th to the 16th centuries. The mosque is a testament to the architectural and spiritual significance the city held on the Silk Road. Despite suffering damage over the centuries due to natural disasters and human conflict, the relics, including the mosque, still display intricate tilework and grandiose designs characteristic of Islamic architecture of that era. The site includes the famous Turabeg Khanum Mausoleum, the Kutlug Timur Minaret, and the Sultan Tekesh Mausoleum. Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the Mosque of Kunya-Urgench is cherished for its masterful brickwork, grand domes, and historical importance as a center of Islamic learning and culture.
