Mount Bromo Tourism

Mount Bromo is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park that covers a massive area of 800 square kilometers in the center of East Java, Indonesia. It is one of the most iconic and scenic volcanoes in Indonesia with its stature often featured in postcards and travel guides. Mount Bromo stands at 2,329 meters above sea level and is an active volcano, with a constant plume of white sulphuric smoke emanating from its crater. The name 'Bromo' derives from the Javanese pronunciation of 'Brahma', the Hindu creator god. This volcano is unique for its breathtaking views, particularly at sunrise. The typical way to view Mount Bromo's stunning beauty is from the viewpoint on Mount Penanjakan which is located to the north of the crater. Taking a trip to Mount Bromo involves an early morning trek, often starting around 3 AM to catch the sunrise. The surrounding area is also known for the 'Sea of Sand', a vast plain that gives an otherworldly feel to the experience. Visitors can also ride horses or trek across the 'Sea of Sand' to the foot of Mount Bromo, and then ascend the stairs that lead to the rim of the crater.
