Introduction to Mujhpathri and Doodhpathri

Kashmir, often referred to as 'Paradise on Earth', is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, serene lakes, and lush meadows. Among its hidden gems are Mujhpathri and Doodhpathri, two pastoral valleys that have recently started finding a place on the tourist map. While Doodhpathri is known for its milky white streams and sprawling meadows, Mujhpathri, the lesser-known neighbor, is a tranquil retreat for those looking to escape the usual tourist trail.

History of Tourism in Mujhpathri and Doodhpathri

The history of tourism in Mujhpathri and Doodhpathri is relatively recent as these destinations were primarily known to the local shepherds and a few intrepid travelers. Doodhpathri, which means 'Valley of Milk', got its name from the milky white waters of the river flowing through its meadows. Mujhpathri, translating to 'Meadow of Turnips', has been less frequented but is gradually coming into its own as a tourist spot.

Until a few decades ago, these areas were mostly untouched by the commercial aspects of tourism. Doodhpathri saw its first surge in visitors only in the early 21st century, when local authorities began developing basic infrastructure to promote it as a tourist destination. Mujhpathri is following suit, with efforts to conserve its natural beauty while providing facilities for incoming tourists.
