Naftalan, a small city located in Azerbaijan, is renowned for its unique therapeutic oil, which has put it on the worldwide map as a spa destination. The Healing Oil of Naftalan

The oil found in Naftalan is not your typical crude oil; it's a rare type of naphthenic oil that has been used for its curative properties for centuries. The earliest recorded history of Naftalan oil's medicinal uses dates back to the 6th century when the oil was used to treat skin diseases and inflamed joints. By the 12th century, it became widely known for its healing properties across the edges of the Silk Road.

The Growth of a Health Destination

The first official spa center utilizing Naftalan oil for therapeutic treatments was established in the late 1800s. However, it was during the Soviet era, particularly in the 20th century, that Naftalan Spa and Health Centers began to flourish as a premier health destination.
