Located in the small, historic country of Lebanon, both Nahr al-Kalb and Jeita Grotto are marvelous natural and historical sites worth exploring. Here's how to reach each destination.
Nahr al-Kalb (Dog River)
Directions:
By Car: Nahr al-Kalb is located approximately 16 km north of Beirut. The drive usually takes around 20 minutes via the Beirut-Tripoli highway. There are signs indicating the exit to Nahr al-Kalb.
By Public Transportation: While Lebanon’s public transportation is not extensively organized, minibuses and buses going towards Jounieh or Byblos often pass by the Dog River. It is recommended to ask the driver to stop at the desired location.
By Taxi or Ride-Sharing: A convenient way is to hire a taxi or use a ride-sharing app. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting the trip or ensure the driver starts the meter.
Jeita Grotto
Directions:
By Car: Located in the valley of Nahr al-Kalb, Jeita Grotto is about 18 km north of Beirut. It can be reached by taking the coastal highway towards Jounieh and then following the signs to Jeita Grotto.
By Public Transportation: Similar to Nahr al-Kalb, reach Jeita Grotto by taking a bus or minibus heading to the north from Beirut and alight at the Jeita roundabout. From here, you might need to take a taxi to the grotto.
By Taxi or Ride-Sharing: Again, a taxi or ride-sharing service can take you directly to Jeita Grotto. Confirm that the destination is well-understood and the fare is clear before departure.
Visitor Tips:
Check the opening times as Jeita Grotto is closed on certain days and the timings change with the seasons.
Photography is not allowed inside Jeita Grotto.
Dress appropriately for the cool temperatures inside the grotto.
