Food History at Neka Art Museum, Ubud Indonesia

The Neka Art Museum itself is not primarily food-focused but rather a space dedicated to showcasing a rich array of Indonesian art. The museum, founded by Suteja Neka, a Balinese teacher and art connoisseur, opened its doors in 1982. It offers a comprehensive survey of Balinese fine arts, not directly related to the culinary scene. However, Ubud, where the museum is located, is well known for its vibrant food culture which blends traditional Balinese dishes with an international culinary scene, influenced by the many visitors and expatriates who have settled in the area. Over the years, Ubud has become a haven for food lovers, with a variety of options ranging from traditional Balinese warungs (local eateries) to high-end restaurants offering gourmet international cuisine.
