Best Time to Visit Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery, Inle Lake

Inle Lake, located in the Shan State of Myanmar, is famed for its serene beauty and the unique stilt houses and floating gardens of the Intha people. Among the attractions on the lake is the Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery, also known as the Jumping Cat Monastery. The best time to visit this destination is during the dry season, which spans from November to February. During these months, the weather is comfortably cool and dry, ensuring that boat trips on Inle Lake to the monastery are pleasant. This period also avoids the rainy season, which can cause disruptions in travel plans with heavy rainfall and possible flooding.

Aside from the agreeable weather, the cool season also coincides with various local festivals which can add to the cultural experience of your trip. The Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival usually falls in late September or early October. Although slightly before the recommended visiting season, it is a spectacle not to be missed where you can witness the procession of barge carrying sacred Buddha images around the lake. However, if you’re looking for tranquility and fewer crowds, timing your visit for January or February would be ideal. By visiting Nga Phe Kyaung during these months, you will enjoy clear, calm days, which are perfect for exploring and soaking in the enchanting atmosphere of Inle Lake and the surrounding countryside.
