The Our Lady of Lebanon statue, also known as Notre Dame du Liban, is a prominent pilgrimage site and monument located in Harissa, a mountain village near Jounieh and approximately 20 km north of Beirut. The statue, which was inaugurated in 1908, stands at a height of 8.5 meters (approximately 28 feet) and is made of bronze painted in white, symbolizing peace and purity. It is positioned atop a hill, 650 meters above sea level, overlooking the Bay of Jounieh with panoramic views of the coastline and the mountains. The statue represents the Virgin Mary with her hands stretched outwards toward Beirut, a gesture of welcoming and blessing for the whole country. The site is not only a religious symbol; it also serves as a touristic attraction due to its historical value and the astonishing views it offers. Visitors can take a cable car, known as the 'Téléphérique', from Jounieh up to the mountain to reach the sanctuary. There's a basilica beneath the statue as well as a museum about its history. The Our Lady of Lebanon remains one of the most visited destinations in Lebanon, attracting both tourists and the faithful.
