The closest airport to Byblos Old Town is Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY). Upon arriving, visitors can hire a taxi or rent a car to reach the town.
From Beirut:
The distance from Beirut to Byblos (also known as Jbeil) is approximately 37 kilometers north along the coastal highway. Travel time can range from 35 minutes to one hour, depending on traffic.
Taxi:
A convenient option from the airport or anywhere in Beirut is to take a taxi directly to the site.
Car Rental:
Visitors can rent a car and drive themselves to Byblos Old Town which is well-signposted. A valid international driver’s license is needed for tourists.
Public Bus:
Public buses also operate from Beirut to Byblos. The trip could cost much less than a taxi but may be less comfortable and can take longer due to multiple stops.
Although less common for visitors, Byblos also has a charming ancient port, and it is theoretically possible to arrive by boat if you are coming from a regional coastal city and have made appropriate arrangements.
The Our Lady of Lebanon Statue is in Harissa, which is about 13 km south of Byblos Old Town. Visitors can take a taxi to Harissa or use the popular teleferique (cable car) from Jounieh up to the mountain site where the statue is located.
Note:
If using the teleferique from Jounieh, ensure you arrange for transportation from Byblos to Jounieh, where you can take a short and scenic cable car ride up to Harissa. The views of the bay from the cable car are particularly striking.
At the base of the statue, facilities are available for visitors, including parking and a souvenir shop. The site is popular among both pilgrims and tourists for its spiritual significance and panoramic views of the coastline and surrounding areas.
