Perak Tong Cave Temple, located near Ipoh, is one of Malaysia's most famous and visually striking cave temples. Found in 1926 by Chong Sen Yee and his wife, this temple is set in a large limestone cave of the Gunung Tasek hills. It has over 40 Buddha statues, and a 12.8-meter high golden Buddha figure towers over visitors as they enter. The walls are adorned with colorful murals depicting characters and scenes from Chinese mythology and Buddhist teachings. The cave leads to a cavern that has been turned into a place of worship with altars and deities. A steep, narrow staircase of 385 steps takes visitors up to a viewing point where they can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including Ipoh and its outskirts. The serene and unique atmosphere inside the caves, along with the vibrant celebrations during Chinese New Year and Wesak Day, makes it a popular destination for tourists and devotees alike. The temple complex includes gardens and a pond, making it peaceful for a spiritual retreat or sightseeing adventure.

Get your fortune read in a cave temple!
A highlight in Ipoh. It's well worth climbing the steps to the top. And the traditional Chinese fortune teller there was amazing. Go during the week when it's not so crowded.
