Perfume River (Huong River) Tourism

The Perfume River, also known as Huong River, flows through the historic city of Hue, in central Vietnam. This river is approximately 80 kilometers long, originating from the Truong Son mountain range and passing through various forests, waterfalls, and plains before reaching the Tam Giang lagoon and finally emptying into the South China Sea. The name 'Perfecture Perfume' or 'Huong River' is poetic and is said to originate from the pleasant scent of tropical flowers that fall into the water during autumn, carried from orchards upstream, giving the river a perfume-like aroma. The river is entwined with the history of the former imperial capital, Hue, serving as the lifeblood of the province. It is particularly famous for the serene beauty that it brings to the city, especially during sunset and sunrise, creating picturesque scenes that have been an inspiration for countless artists and poets. Along the banks of the Perfume River, various cultural and historical monuments, including the Forbidden Purple City and the tombs of several Nguyen emperors can be found. Sightseeing tours are popular among tourists, often by boat, offering a unique perspective of Hue's heritage sites.
