Thien Mu Pagoda, also known as the Pagoda of the Celestial Lady, is a historic temple in the city of Hue, Vietnam. Situated on the north bank of the Perfume River, it is an iconic symbol of the former imperial capital. The pagoda was originally founded in 1601 by Nguyen Hoang, the governor of Thuan Hoa province. Throughout its history, Thien Mu Pagoda has been renovated and expanded several times, with the most prominent feature being the seven-story Phuoc Duyen Tower, which was added in 1844 under the reign of Emperor Thieu Tri. The site is a beautiful complex of historical buildings, gardens, and is also home to a monastic community. The architecture of Thien Mu Pagoda reflects the traditional Vietnamese design, with influences from both Buddhism and Vietnamese culture. As a place of worship and a relic of significant historical and cultural value, it attracts numerous visitors and pilgrims. Its historical association with the Buddhist renaissance and the anti-government protests during the 1960s further enhances its cultural significance.
Nice ride on the perfume river to get to the pagoda
Took the dragoon boat on the perfume river to the Thien Mu Pagoda.
The pagoda, at 33 ft high and dates to the 17th century. It was constructed by the emperor as a dedication to some of his historica..
You can't quite climb up the pagoda but you get quite a peaceful stroll in the grounds. It is a working temple so monks get up at 3.30am to toll the bell. There is a timetable printed on the grounds..
We spent an hour here, lovely place to walk around and take photos. The Pagoda was beautiful. There are quite a few steps so not easily accessible for everyone.
