The Tomb of Emperor Khai Dinh is located in Chau Chu mountain near Hue in Vietnam. It is the final resting place of Khai Dinh, the twelfth emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty, who ruled from 1916 to 1925. The tomb's construction began in 1920 and took 11 years to complete, blending Western architectural elements with traditional Vietnamese design and decor, creating a unique and eclectic mix of gothic, baroque, and oriental influences. The tomb is built on a steep hill, and visitors must ascend a long staircase to reach the main pavilion, Thien Dinh, which houses a statue of the seated emperor and the intricately decorated tomb itself. The interiors are lavishly adorned with colorful glass and ceramic mosaics, using materials imported from France and China, reflecting the opulence and extravagance of the emperor's reign. The Tomb of Emperor Khai Dinh is recognized not only as a significant historical and cultural site but also as an architectural wonder, attracting tourists who are interested in Vietnamese history, culture, and the fusion of differing architectural styles.

No disrespect intended, but we weren't expecting to see such an ornate mausoleum in Hue. We didn't mind all the steps we had to climb after beholding Emperor Khai Dinh's lavishly decorated tomb.

Beautiful complex
We loved this complex. It is set up the same as other toms nearby but the buildings themselves were so ornate and beautiful on the inside. This was by far our favourite Hue site
