Phimai Historical Park is one of Thailand's most significant Khmer ruins and is accessible by a variety of transportation methods. Whether you're venturing from Bangkok or from within the Issan region, there are convenient options for all travelers.
If you are planning to fly, the closest airport to Phimai is in Nakhon Ratchasima (Khorat). Airlines such as Thai AirAsia and Nok Air offer flights from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima. Once you arrive at the airport, you can take a taxi or rent a car to reach Phimai, which is about 60 kilometers away.
For those preferring rail travel, services are available from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong station to Nakhon Ratchasima. From there, you could either rent a car or catch local transport to Phimai.
Buses from Bangkok’s Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit 2) to Nakhon Ratchasima run frequently. The journey takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. Once in Nakhon Ratchasima, switch to a bus bound for Phimai, which takes around 1 hour.
If you're driving from Bangkok, take Highway 1 (Phahonyothin Road) to Saraburi, and then Highway 2 (Mitraphap Road) to Nakhon Ratchasima; then use Highway 206 to Phimai. The drive should take about 4 to 5 hours depending on traffic.
Upon arrival in Phimai, the historical park is easily accessible by local transport such as tuk-tuks and songthaews, or even by a short walk if you are staying in Phimai town. The park is well-signposted, making it easy to locate.
