How to Reach Puerto Princesa Underground River
Step 1: Arrival in Puerto Princesa
Travel to Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS), which is the main gateway to Palawan Island. The airport is well-connected with flights from major cities in the Philippines such as Manila, Cebu, and Davao, as well as international destinations.
Step 2: Transfer to Puerto Princesa City Proper
- Upon arrival, you can take a tricycle, taxi, or airport shuttle to reach the city center.
- Many hotels also offer airport transfer services for their guests.
Step 3: Travel to Sabang
From Puerto Princesa city center, Sabang is the jump-off point for the Underground River tours. It is located about 80 kilometers to the northwest of the city.
- By Van or Bus: Regular shuttle vans and buses depart from San Jose Terminal in Puerto Princesa to Sabang. Travel time is approximately 2 hours.
- Private Transfer: You can also arrange a private vehicle or join a guided tour which includes round-trip transportation from your hotel to Sabang.
Step 4: Boat Ride to the Underground River
Once in Sabang, you will need to register at the booking office and secure a boat that will take you to the entrance of the Underground River.
- A short boat ride from the Sabang wharf will take you directly to the Underground River National Park entrance.
- Permit: Ensure you have secured the necessary permits in advance either through a tour operator or from the local government office in Puerto Princesa.
