Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium Tourism

Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, situated in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, is a unique venue for international cricket. The stadium is renowned for its picturesque setting, surrounded by lush greenery and overlooked by the Dambulla Rock. It was built in a short span of about six months and opened in 2000 to replace the Galle International Stadium after it was damaged by a tsunami. With a capacity of around 16,800 spectators, the ground is known for its expansive grass embankments that give it a distinctive, relaxed atmosphere. The playing surface has typically favored batsmen during the day and assisted fast bowlers under the lights. The locale is often praised for its well-drained outfield, which has allowed for quick resumption of play after rain interruptions. The complex includes modern facilities and a large media box that caters to international broadcasting requirements. Additionally, the sight of Buddhist monks among the crowd, hailing from the nearby Golden Temple of Dambulla, adds a unique cultural element to matches played at this venue.
