Dambulla, located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, is renowned for its significant historical and cultural heritage. The most famous landmark here is the Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, which has been a pilgrimage site for over 22 centuries. This UNESCO World Heritage site comprises a series of five cave temples adorned with intricate murals and numerous statues depicting the Buddha, Sri Lankan kings, gods, and goddesses. The caves sit atop a large rock that dominates the surrounding flat landscape. The rock itself is a colossal formation rising about 160 meters from the surrounding plains.
