Best Time to Visit Riwai Root Bridge, Mawlynnong, Meghalaya, India

The picturesque village of Mawlynnong, located in the state of Meghalaya, India, is home to one of the remarkable natural wonders — the Riwai Root Bridge. This living root bridge is best visited during the dry season, which typically spans from November to May. During these months, the weather is more stable with minimal rainfall, making it ideal for exploring the bridge and the surrounding natural beauty. The temperature during this period is comfortable and ranges from 12°C to 25°C, which is perfect for trekking and taking in the sights at a leisurely pace.

In contrast, the monsoon season from June to October is characterized by heavy rainfall, which can lead to slippery paths and swollen rivers, potentially making access to the bridge more challenging. However, those looking for a more adventurous experience might find the monsoon to enhance the lush green beauty of the area, albeit with the need for caution and proper preparation. For photographers and nature enthusiasts, the time immediately after the monsoon — late October and early November — can also be particularly appealing, as the rains leave the landscape vibrant and refreshed. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Mawlynnong's Riwai Root Bridge is a stunning display of the symbiotic relationship between nature and the ingenious Khasi tribal engineering.
