Must-Try Foods In Royal Palace Of Turin (Turin) For Tourists 2026 - 2027

Food History of the Royal Palace of Turin, Turin, Italy

The Royal Palace of Turin (Palazzo Reale di Torino), located in the heart of the city, is steeped in rich history, not just in terms of architecture and art, but also in culinary traditions. As the former residence of the House of Savoy, the ruling dynasty of Italy until 1946, the palace was the epicenter of court life and luxurious banquets. These events showcased the opulence of the Savoy reign and often featured elaborate dishes, reflecting both local Piedmontese specialties and French-influenced cuisine due to the close connections between the two regions.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, Turin became a key cultural and political hub, and with that came the exchange of culinary practices. Chocolate, for instance, became a mainstay in Turine society after being introduced from Spain, leading to the invention of the renowned 'gianduiotto', a hazelnut-infused chocolate.
