How to Get to Safed Artists' Colony

By Air

Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) is the closest major airport to Tzfat. From there, the following options are available:

  • Car Rental: Rent a vehicle and drive directly to Safed. The distance is about 155 kilometers (approximately a 2-hour drive).
  • Taxi or Private Shuttle: Hire a taxi or book a private shuttle for a direct transfer to Tzfat.
  • Train and Bus: Take a train to Akko (Acre) or Karmiel, and then switch to a bus that will take you to Safed.

By Road

Driving from Nearby Cities: You can rent a car and travel to Tzfat from various locations in Israel:

  • From Jerusalem: Take Route 1 and then Route 6 north, exiting onto Route 65 towards Akko, and after that Route 85 to Safed.
  • From Tel Aviv: Take Route 2 north towards Haifa and switch to Route 22, then Route 70, and finally, take Route 85 directly to Safed.
  • From Haifa: Catch Route 75, then Route 70 and just like from Tel Aviv, continue to Route 85 which leads to Safed.

By Public Transport

Bus Services: Various bus lines serve Safed from major cities in Israel, including:

  • From Jerusalem: Take Egged bus lines 480 or 840.
  • From Tel Aviv: Egged bus line 836 is a direct route, while others may require transfers.
  • From Haifa: Take Egged bus 361.

Note that buses do not run on Shabbat (from Friday evening until Saturday evening).
