Scandal Point (Shimla) History

Scandal Point, Shimla: A Journey Through Time

The picturesque city of Shimla, located in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, has long been a favored destination for tourists seeking respite from the heat of the Indian plains. Nestled in the Himalayan foothills, Shimla offers a charming blend of Indian culture and British colonial heritage, which is especially evident at Scandal Point, a historic location known for its interesting backstory and stunning views.

Historical Significance

Historically, Shimla became the summer capital of British India due to its temperate climate. During this era, Scandal Point emerged as a prominent meeting place for locals and British officials. The lore suggests that the name 'Scandal Point' originated from a romantic anecdote involving the Maharaja of Patiala, who eloped with the daughter of the British Viceroy. This caused a scandal, as such liaisons were frowned upon in those times, thus giving this place its intriguing name.
