Food History of Senaru Waterfalls, Lombok

The Senaru Waterfalls, Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gile, are nestled in the lush northern region of Lombok, near the village of Senaru. While the waterfalls themselves are natural wonders, the food in the area reflects the rich cultural tapestry of Lombok. The indigenous Sasak people, who make up the majority of Lombok's population, have a traditional diet that often consists of rice, vegetables, and fish. Their food is known for its simplicity and use of fresh ingredients, often flavored with local spices such as lemongrass, galangal, and chili. Due to religious beliefs, the Sasak cuisine aligns with Islamic dietary laws, which means pork is avoided, although other meats like chicken, goat, and seafood are commonly consumed.
