Sendai is a beautiful city located in the Tohoku region of Japan. Known for its vibrant city life and scenic beauty, it is well-connected to various transportation networks. Here is how you can reach Sendai:
Sendai Airport (SDJ) is the nearest airport to Sendai city. It offers both domestic and international flights. You can easily catch a flight from major cities like Tokyo, Sapporo, and Osaka, as well as from international destinations such as Seoul, Shanghai, and Taipei.
After arriving at Sendai Airport, you can take the Sendai Airport Access Line directly to Sendai Station in around 25-30 minutes.
Shinkansen (Bullet Train): Sendai is well serviced by the Tohoku Shinkansen. Traveling from Tokyo to Sendai by Shinkansen takes about 90 minutes on the Hayabusa or Yamabiko trains.
JR Trains: You can also use local JR trains if preferred, but they will take longer than the Shinkansen.
Several bus companies operate long-distance highway buses to Sendai from Tokyo, Yokohama, and other cities. While the journey is longer (around 5-6 hours from Tokyo), it can be more economical.
If you are renting a car, you can use the Tohoku Expressway, which connects Tokyo to Sendai. The drive is approximately 4-5 hours depending on traffic conditions.
When traveling within Sendai, public transportation such as buses and the Sendai City Subway are convenient ways to move around the city.
