Sheesh Mahal, located within the historic Lahore Fort near the walled city of Lahore, Pakistan, is a palace of mirrors that exemplifies the opulence of the Mughal era. Constructed under the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan in 1631-32, the palace is adorned with a myriad of reflective glass tiles that create a stunning effect of sparkling illumination when lit with candles at night. This ornate mirror work was a signature feature of Mughal architecture. This pavilion served as the personal quarters of the imperial family and is a testament to the grandeur of a bygone era. Intricately crafted marble screens, pietra dura work (marble inlay), and frescoes are among the palace's artistic features. Sheesh Mahal is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its historical and cultural significance. The Sheesh Mahal also overlooks the beautiful Shalimar Gardens through its balcony, providing an enchanting view. It is a precious gem in Lahore's architectural crown and continues to attract tourists and history enthusiasts from all over the world.
