The Shri Nalanda Institute for Higher Buddhist Studies, located in Rumtek, is one of the eminent centers for Buddhist learning in India, situated in the northeastern state of Sikkim. The best time to visit this institute and Rumtek, in general, is during the spring months of March to June. During this period, the weather is pleasant with moderate temperatures, making it an ideal time for tourists to explore the cultural richness of the institute and the surrounding areas without the discomfort of extreme weather conditions. The lush greenery of the landscapes is at its peak, and the vibrant flowers are in full bloom, offering a breathtaking view of the Himalayan foothills.
Another favorable timeframe is the autumn period of September to November, when the climate is cool and the monsoon rains have subsided. The skies tend to be clear, providing panoramic views of the Himalayas. This period also coincides with several local festivities and the vibrant celebrations of Lhabab Duchen – an important Tibetan Buddhist festival commemorated with much pomp at the Institute.
