Yuksom is a small historical town in West Sikkim, famed for its pristine beauty and rich history. Situated at an elevation of about 1,780 meters, it is often referred to as the gateway to the Kangchenjunga National Park and multiple high-altitude treks, including the well-known Dzongri and Goecha La treks. The name 'Yuksom' means 'Meeting place of three lamas', commemorating its foundation in 1642 by three Tibetan Buddhist monks. Yuksom has the Norbugang Chorten, a serene stupa surrounded by prayer wheels, testifying to the town's spiritual ambiance. It's also the site of the Norbugang Throne, where the first Chogyal (King) of Sikkim was crowned. Flanked by lush forests and with snow-capped mountains in the distance, Yuksom offers a tranquil retreat. Villages within walking distance allow cultural exchanges, where one can experience the indigenous traditions of the Sikkimese people. It is part of the Khangchendzonga Biosphere Reserve, offering rare glimpses of the biodiversity of the eastern Himalayas.
