Best Time To Visit Somapura Mahavihara (Rajshahi) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Somapura Mahavihara in Rajshahi, Bangladesh

The ideal time to visit Somapura Mahavihara, which is one of the most important archaeological sites in Bangladesh, is during the winter season, running from November to February. During these months, the weather is relatively cooler and stable, with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 25°C. This cooler climate is perfect for exploring the ancient Buddhist monastery ruins without the discomfort of heat and humidity. Additionally, the winter season coincides with the peak tourist season in Bangladesh, offering vibrant local experiences and better services for travelers.

Visiting outside of the monsoon period is highly recommended because the monsoon, which lasts from June to October, can make the site difficult to navigate due to heavy rainfall and potential flooding. Moreover, the clear skies of the dry season allow for uninterrupted exploration and excellent photographic opportunities in the archaeological complex. Bear in mind that the site can be quite busy with local tourists on weekends and national holidays, so if you prefer a quieter visit, it may be best to plan your trip on a weekday.
