Best Time To Visit Sundarbans (West Bengal) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Sundarbans, West Bengal, India

The Sundarbans, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a natural wonder, is renowned for its sprawling mangrove forests, diverse wildlife, and the majestic Royal Bengal tiger. To get the most out of your visit to this unique ecosystem, timing your trip correctly is crucial. The most recommended period to explore the Sundarbans is during the winter months, from November to February. During this time, the weather is pleasant with temperatures ranging from 10 to 30 degrees Celsius, creating ideal conditions for wildlife spotting and comfortable exploration of the area. Humidity is lower, and the skies are generally clear, offering unobstructed views of the region's stunning landscapes and animals. It's also the peak season for migratory birds, enriching the biodiversity that visitors can witness.

In contrast, the monsoon season from June to September is usually advised against for travelers due to heavy rainfall, which can cause flooding and make navigation through the mangrove swamps hazardous. The hot and humid summer months from March to May are also less ideal for visits, as temperatures can soar up to 40 degrees Celsius, significantly reducing the comfort of excursions. However, for those willing to brave the heat, summer can sometimes provide better opportunities to spot wildlife as animals often come out in search of water. Regardless of the season, visitors should always respect the delicate ecology of the Sundarbans and observe safety guidelines, especially due to the presence of various protected species and the unpredictable terrain.
