Tad Fane Waterfall is a stunning twin set of waterfalls in the Bolaven Plateau, near Pakse in Laos. It's located in the Dong Hua Sao National Biodiversity Conservation Area. Here's how to reach this breathtaking natural attraction:

Travel to Pakse

First, you need to get to Pakse, the largest city in Southern Laos. Pakse can be reached in several ways:

  • By Air: Fly into Pakse International Airport from select domestic and international locations.
  • By Bus: There are regular bus services from Vientiane, Luang Prabang and other major cities to Pakse.
  • By Visa Run Service: If you’re in Thailand, special “visa run” services can take you to the Lao border, where you can then transfer to Pakse.

From Pakse to Tad Fane Waterfall

Once in Pakse, there are a couple of ways to reach Tad Fane Waterfall:

  • Tour Group: Join a tour group. Many local travel agencies in Pakse offer day trips to Tad Fane, often combined with visits to other nearby attractions.
  • Renting a Motorbike: For the more adventurous, renting a motorbike in Pakse and making the trip yourself is an option. Tad Fane is about 38 kilometers away and it's a scenic ride through the Bolaven Plateau.
  • Private Car Hire: Hire a private car with a driver. This is a more comfortable option but also more expensive than the motorbike. Negotiate the price beforehand.
  • Local Bus: Catch a local bus heading towards Paksong, asking the driver to drop you off at the entrance to Tad Fane. From the drop-off point, it may be a walk or a short motorbike taxi ride to the actual falls.

Additional Tips

  • Bring comfortable shoes for trekking, as the falls are located within a park and some walking will be involved.
  • Consider the rainy season (May to October) as the falls are most spectacular then, but be prepared for wet conditions.
  • There is an entrance fee to the park, so carry some local currency with you.
  • Staying overnight? There are bungalows and resorts near the waterfall if you wish to stay longer and explore the area in-depth.
