This village lies at an altitude of approximately 2,590 meters and is a prominent stop during the Helambu trekking route. The journey to Tarkeghyang takes you through lush forests, past shimmering waterfalls, and alongside terraced farms. Along the way, trekkers encounter various chortens, mani walls, and prayer wheels, reflecting the strong influence of Buddhism in the area. The village itself boasts a charming ambiance, with its ancient monasteries, particularly the older Tarkeghyang Gompa, and its friendly inhabitants who welcome visitors with warm hospitality. The houses here are typical of highland Sherpa architecture, featuring stone walls and flat roofs to withstand the elements. Tarkeghyang, which literally translates to '100 horses', is named after a local legend. Beyond its cultural richness, Tarkeghyang offers stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas, making it a peaceful retreat for those seeking a harmonious blend of culture and nature.
