Taroko Gorge is an awe-inspiring natural wonder located in Hualien County on the east coast of Taiwan. It is the most prominent feature of the Taroko National Park, renowned for its towering marble cliffs, deep valleys, rushing rivers, and numerous waterfalls set amongst lush greenery. Carved by the Liwu River, the gorge offers breathtaking views and is a testament to the beauty of erosion over millions of years. The Taroko Gorge stretches for about 19 kilometers and is composed of metamorphic rocks, such as marble and gneiss. The gorge has a rich cultural history and is home to the indigenous Truku tribe. Visitors can explore a number of hiking trails, shrines, and landmarks including the Eternal Spring Shrine and Swallow Grotto. The gorge also features a number of tunnels, including the Tunnel of Nine Turns which affords panoramic views. It is a sanctuary for many species of flora and fauna, making it a popular spot for eco-tourism and geological study alike.
