Telegraph Island, known officially as Jazirat al Maqlab, is a small, rocky island located in the Elphinstone Inlet in the Strait of Hormuz, near the coast of the Musandam Peninsula in Oman. The island is most famous for its historical role as a telegraph station. Established by the British in the mid-19th century, it served as a repeater station to boost telegraphic messages along the London to Karachi telegraph cable, which was an important part of the imperial communication network.
