Thatbyinnyu Temple is an eminent structure among Bagan's sea of temples, located in Bagan, Myanmar (Burma). It's known for being one of the highest monuments of Bagan, with a height of over 60 meters. Constructed in the mid-12th century during the reign of King Alaungsithu, it is a symbol of the pinnacle of Burmese temple design. Thatbyinnyu is distinguished from other Bagan temples by its significant shift from the traditional dark and cramped interior spaces to a more open and airy architectural style. This temple is also unique with its transitional design, representing a shift from the Mon culture to a distinct style that would later become known as the Burmese style. It features two primary stories with seated Buddha images and offers panoramic views of the surrounding plains and other temples from its upper terraces. The temple has been damaged by earthquakes over the centuries, most recently in 2016, but efforts have been made to restore and maintain this historic structure. Thatbyinnyu Temple remains an important architectural treasure and a revered religious site for both local residents and visitors.
