Tharabar Gate is one of the ancient gates located in the historic city of Bagan, Myanmar (Burma). This gate is part of the Old Bagan city walls and is the only remaining gate of the original twelve that were once part of the city's fortified walls. Dating back to the 9th century, it is a lasting testament to Bagan's ancient architectural skills. Tharabar Gate played a significant role in the protection and development of the city, strategically positioned to guard the royal palace which no longer exists. Its structure is a stunning example of the traditional Burmese temple architecture, with intricate carvings and stucco work adorning its façade. It is a popular site for both tourists and history enthusiasts, as it offers a glimpse into the region's rich past and culture. Apart from its historical significance, the gate also holds a spiritual value, with local legends speaking of guardian spirits living within its walls. The gate has been restored several times over the centuries but still retains its original character and charm.
