Topchanchi Wildlife Sanctuary Tourism

Topchanchi Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Dhanbad district of Jharkhand, India. The sanctuary sprawls over an area of approximately 8.75 square kilometers and is a part of the Topchanchi forest reserve. The sanctuary serves as an ecological haven due to its dense forests which provide a habitat to various species of flora and fauna. It is known for its picturesque landscape which is dotted with hillocks and water bodies, including the Topchanchi Lake that adds to the beauty of the area. The lake is an artificial water reservoir that was constructed during the British colonial era to supply water to the localities and for the running of steam engines. The sanctuary is a haven for nature lovers and bird watchers, who come to observe the distinct species of birds and animals that thrive here. Notable wildlife includes leopards, wild boars, langurs, and numerous bird species. This natural retreat also acts as a significant catchment area for the Damodar Valley Corporation, a key watershed in the region.
