Tosa Maidan is an offbeat and pristine meadow located in the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Historically it was known for being an artillery firing range for the Indian Army but has since been handed back to the state government and has been developed as a tourist destination. The name 'Tosa Maidan' is derived from 'Tosa' meaning cannon and 'Maidan' meaning field in Persian. It spreads over an area of about 3 square kilometers and is surrounded by dense forests and snow-capped mountains. The hillocks of Tosa Maidan are covered with different types of flowers that bloom in spring and summer, providing a bright array of colors across the landscape. The place is also rich with respect to biodiversity, hosting various species of flora and fauna. It is becoming popular among trekkers and picnickers due to its untouched natural beauty and serene environment. The local shepherd community known as 'Bakarwals' traverse this meadow, giving visitors a glimpse into their nomadic lifestyle.
