Yaroslav's Court is an historic area located in Veliky Novgorod, Russia, that dates back to the 12th century. It was named after Yaroslav the Wise, a Grand Prince of Novgorod and Kiev. Situated on the trade route from the Varangians to the Greeks, Yaroslav's Court was once a prosperous and bustling trade district. It includes the arcade of the Gostiny Dvor, a large market complex, and the Nikolo-Dvorishchensky Cathedral. The court is located on the east bank of the Volkhov River opposite the Novgorod Kremlin and is part of the historic monuments centered around the Detinets, or Kremlin, of Novgorod, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Artifacts from various periods, including churches, monuments, and domestic architecture, provide a window into the rich history of this medieval Russian city. It is surrounded by several well-preserved churches, including the Church of Myrrh-bearing Women and the Church of St. John the Baptist, adding to its architectural and historic value. The site is an excellent representation of Russia's history, culture, and religion, marked by the Novgorod Republic's remarkable degree of autonomy and democracy for its time.
