The Yueh Hai Ching Temple, located in the heart of Chinatown in Singapore, is often recognized as the Temple of Love. UNESCO has acknowledged this temple with an Award of Excellence for its restoration. Built by Cantonese and Hakka immigrants in the 1820s, the temple is dedicated to Mazu, the Chinese sea goddess, rendering it a focal point for seafarers seeking blessings for safe voyages. Its name translates to 'The Guangdong (Canton) Sea Temple.' The temple structure showcases traditional southern Chinese architectural styles, with intricate roofs adorned with dragons and phoenixes, and its walls feature detailed tile carvings and murals. It remains an active place of worship where rituals and traditional festivities take place throughout the year. The Yueh Hai Ching Temple is significant for its historical value, its role in the spiritual lives of Chinese immigrants, and its contribution to the cultural tapestry of Singapore.
The temple is not large, but it is nice to visit because its decorations on the rooftops are colorful and convoluted. Its surrounding is not noisy.
