The market is situated close to the India-Myanmar border, making it a center of commerce and exchange for both nations.

Early Beginnings of Zokhawthar Border Market

The inception of the Zokhawthar Border Market can be traced back to the longstanding ties between the communities living on either side of the border. For centuries, these communities have shared ethnic, cultural, and economic links. Historically, the residents have engaged in informal trade, capitalizing on their cross-border relationships. It was only natural that a formal market would eventually be established to regulate and promote this trade.

Development and Growth of the Market

Through the years, the Zokhawthar Border Market has evolved from an informal setup to a structured trading point. The Indian government recognized the potential of this area and initiated steps to formalize the trade links. This led to the establishment of officially sanctioned trading activities, which further propelled the growth of tourism in the region.

With the formalization of trade, infrastructure around the Zokhawthar area improved, making it more accessible to tourists. Visitors come not only for the market but also to witness the harmonious cross-border interactions and to explore the scenic beauty of the surrounding hills and valleys.
