Al Baleed Archaeological Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the tropical city of Salalah in the Dhofar governorate of Oman. To make the most of your visit, follow these detailed instructions.
By Air:
- Salalah International Airport (SLL) is the closest airport to Al Baleed Archaeological Park. Upon arrival, you can rent a car, take a taxi or use a ride-sharing service to reach the park. The distance from the airport to Al Baleed is approximately 15 kilometers, making for a short drive.
By Road:
- If you are driving from Muscat, the capital of Oman, take the coastal Route 47 which is a scenic trip along the Omani coast. This journey may take approximately 10-12 hours by car.
- Visitors from neighboring regions or countries may also drive into Oman if they have the necessary documentation. Ensure you have valid car insurance that covers Omani territory.
By Public Transport:
- Bus services operated by the Oman National Transport Company connect different cities to Salalah. Once in Salalah, local taxis or buses can be taken to reach the park.
By Sea:
- For a unique experience, one can arrive at Salalah via cruise ship. Salalah Port is included in some of the cruise itineraries that sail through the Arabian Sea. From the port, you can take a taxi to the park.
Ensure that you check the local weather and climate before visiting, as Salalah is renowned for its seasonal monsoon, or ‘Khareef’, which makes the region particularly lush and green between June to September.
