Baghaberd, also known as Bagaberd or Baghberd, is an ancient fortress located near the town of Kapan in the Syunik Province of Armenia. It is nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of the Armenian Highlands, offering visitors a glimpse into the country's rich history and natural beauty.
The most convenient way to reach the fortress is by car. From the center of Kapan, take the M-2 highway south for about 8 km before turning left at the sign indicating the direction to Baghaberd. The remaining path may require a vehicle with high clearance as the road gets rugged and steep. Parking is available at the base where the trek to the fortress begins.
If you are not driving, you can hire a taxi from Kapan. Make sure to negotiate the fare in advance, and it is advisable to arrange a pick-up time for your return trip, as it may be difficult to find taxis near the fortress.
Public transport to the fortress is not commonly available. However, you may find local buses or minibuses headed towards nearby villages. From there, you will need to hike to reach Baghaberd. This option is best suited for the more adventurous traveler.
For those who enjoy hiking, there is a trail leading up to Baghaberd. The hike can be quite challenging and is recommended for experienced hikers. Proper footwear and supplies are essential.
